
Post-bachelor Pre-Medicine Information
Many individuals make the decision to return to school to study medicine. Since medical schools do not require particular undergraduate majors, most students with strong undergraduate GPAs simply need to complete the pre-med course requirements, take the MCAT, and apply. Other students may need additional coursework or even graduate work to offset their undergraduate record and highlight their current academic potential.
Although specific course requirements vary among medical schools, most typically require two semesters each of biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, physics and English composition. A strong foundation in math is also considered essential for understanding the basic sciences needed for MCAT preparation and medical school.
It is the applicant’s responsibility to become thoroughly familiar with the admissions requirements, examinations, application deadlines, and other information for each school to which he or she applies.
