Pre-Pathologist Assistant Curriculum (S87-S05)

Admission to the College of Pharmacy & Allied Health Professions:

 

  • Completion of a minimum of 60 semester hours, including the courses identified in the table below, is required to be considered for admission to the professional program in Pathologists' Assistant.
  • All courses identified in the table below must be completed with no grade lower than a "C" (a grade of "C-" is not acceptable).
  • The professional program begins only in Fall Term. Science prerequisites must be completed by May. All preprofessional requirements must be completed by the end of Spring/Summer Term.
  • The application deadline for the professional program is April 15. For an application go to: www.cphs.wayne.edu.
  • Admission to the professional program in Pathologists' Assistant is selective. A minimum overall Grade Point Average of 2.50 is required to be considered.
  • Each biology and chemistry couse must include a laboratory.
  • Time limitation: students must complete pre-professional work within six years and the professional program within three years. Students who interrupt their academic program must apply for reinstatement. Examination may be required for reinstatement.
  • Students are strongly encouraged to attend an Informational Meeting held the first Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, 259 Mack Avenue. Call 313-577-1716 for information or send email to: cphsinfo@wayne.edu.

    Competency Requirements and Options: 

  • Writing Intensive Course (WI): fulflled during professional program

     

  • Mathematics Competency (MC): (to be completed by 30 hours by one method below);
  • Transfer credit for the equivalent of MAT 1800 or higher taken at an accredited college OR
  • Attain CLEP score of "50" or higher, an  AP score of "2" (no degree credit), or "25" on ACT Math exam OR
  • Effective Fall 2002, placement beyond Math 0993 on the Mathematics Qualifying Exam at any point in a student's academic career. Students who place into Math 0993 must satisfactorily complete Math 0993.
  • Additional options below are available to students whose first enrollment at WSU occurred between Fall 1983 and Spr/Sum 1990 inclusive:

  • Four years of high school math, including one year each of algebra & geometry, with a "C" average;
  • A Quantitative score of 450+ on the SAT or 16+ on the ACT;
  • Pass Qualifying Exam for MAT 150, 180, or 201 or qualify for 150 or 180 via MAT 095;
  • Pass MAT 150, 180, or 201 or equivalent.
  • Intermediate Composition (IC):choices other than ENG 3050;
    AFS 2390, ISP 4991; ENG 2050, 2100, 2110, 2120, 2210, 2310, 2390, 2570, 3010; ISP 3510; I H 2010;
  • Critical Thinking (CT): by 60 hours, by one method below
  • Pass the Critical Thinking Exam or,

  • Oral Communication (OC):By 30 hours by one method below
  • Two semesters of high school speech or debate or
  • Pass the Oral Communication Competency Exam or
  • Pass COM 1010, ENG 3060, or ISP 1560
  • Computer Literacy (CL):By 60 hours by one method below
  • One semester of a high school computer course or
  • Pass the Computer Literacy Competency Exam or

    To determine your progress in meeting Preprofessional and Group Requirements, make an appointment with an Academic Advisor in the University Advising Center by calling 313 / 577-8889. The Advising Center, located at 1600 David Adamany Undergraduate Library, is open from 8:30 - 7:00 Monday and Thursday and from 8:30 - 5:00 on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. Summer hours are Mon.--Fri. 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
