Pre-Occupational Therapy Curriculum (S87-S05)

Admission to the Professional Program in Occupational Therapy:

  • Completion of a minimum of 60 semester hours, including the requirements identified in the table below, is required to be considered for admission to the professional program in Occupational Therapy. (NOTE: all general education requirements should be completed prior to entering the professional program)
  • All requirements identified in the table below must be completed with no grade lower than a "C" (a grade of "C-" is not acceptable).
  • The professional program begins in Fall, continuing for three years toward a Master of Occupational Therapy.
  • The application deadline is February 28. For an application go to www.cphs.wayne.edu.
  • Admission to the professional program in Occupational Therapy is selective and competitive. Applicants must have have a minimum overall Grade Point Average of 3.0. The GPA will be based on grades in ENG 1020, ENG 3010, BIO 1510, BIO 2870, PHY 2130 & 2131, COM 1010, PSY 1020 (or 1010), PSY 2400, STA 1020 (or PSY 3010), American Institutions, and Basic Social Science. These courses must be completed by the end of the Winter Term preceding the application deadline. Fulfilling the minimum requirements does not assure admission.
  • Applicants must also document a minimum of 20 hours of contact with a registered Occupational Therapist.
  • Each biology and physics requirement must include a laboratory.

  • Mathematics Competency (MC): (to be completed by 30 hours by one method below);
    • Attain CLEP score of "50" or higher, an  AP score of "2" (no degree credit), or "25" on ACT Math exam  OR
    • Transfer credit for the equivalent of MAT 1800 or higher taken at an accredited college OR
    • Effective Fall 2002, placement beyond Math 0993 on the Mathematics Qualifying Exam at any point in a student's academic career. Students who place into Math 0993 must satisfactorily complete Math 0993.
    • Additional options below are available to students whose first enrollment at WSU occurred between Fall 1983 and Spr/Sum 1990 inclusive:
      • Four years of high school math, including one year each of algebra & geometry, with a "C" average;
      • A Quantitative score of 450+ on the SAT or 16+ on the ACT;
      • Pass Qualifying Exam for MAT 150, 180, or 201 or qualify for 150 or 180 via MAT 095;
      • Pass MAT 150, 180, or 201 or equivalent.
  • Intermediate Composition (IC): choices other than ENG 3010:

    To determine your progress in meeting Preprofessional and Group Requirements, make an appointment with an Academic Advisor in the University Advising Center by calling 313 / 577-8889. The Advising Center, located at 1600 David Adamany Undergraduate Library, is open from 8:30 - 7:00 Monday and Thursday and from 8:30 - 5:00 on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. Summer hours are Mon.--Fri. 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 P.m.

    It is the student's responsibility to become familiar with and to complete all degree requirements.
